King David: Dense biblical tale tracks youthful David’s life from boyhood battle with Goliath to anxious reign as emperor; only goes awry in second half, where abruptness sabotages narrative. This movie is visually striking, with Donald McAlpine’s photography, Carl Davis’ music, and hefty positive holdings-in conjunction with momentous behavior by Woodward as Baron Saul. Frontier Hellcat: Another Karl Winnetou tale, which seizes flavor of the Old West in venture of pioneers passing through Rockies. Cast includes Stewart Granger, Elke Sohuner, Pierre Brice, and Gotz George. (98 minutes, 1966)
King Kong: In A state of depression-era NYC conniving film creator Carl Denham Black shanghais a team, a screenwriter Brody, and a leading woman Watts for a sea journey to Skull Island on the largest wager of his occupation.
