No matter where you go you hear people talking about how we must recycle everything so we can take care of the earth. Should we really go to all of that trouble? Do you know that it takes more or less 1,000 years for a plastic shopping bag to totally decay? That’s quite a long time, and don’t forget that’s just one plastic bag. Think about the number of plastic shopping and trash bags you go through each year. You’re talking about a great deal of plastic bags when you multiply that figure by the number of people living in our country. We can choose to use it again it by recycling and prevent it from sitting in a landfill rotting for years. Many things are recycled nowadays, for instance old worn tires are shredded down and utilized as tread for playgrounds and can be remade into clothing. Majority of items are candidates for recycling.

Fifteen years ago, the town of Lemoore, California began a very strict recycling program. If Lemoore residents failed to observe the recycling rules, they were fined. Majority of the people opted to comply and the town profited immensely from recycling. They were able to build a new playground and also build a water park. Their recycling attempts enabled them to fund a police department as well as other basic municipal necessities. Obviously, recycling does more than simply reuse tossed items; it can help to generate money for other projects.

Most likely, you believe that you as a single person can’t make a huge difference by your recycling but just imagine how much the world would change if everyone did just a little bit of a recycling. We could bring down the size of most landfills which, in turn, would save money in their operation and prevent damage to the local environment. Through recycling, we can take care of the earth and also help to raise money for those in need. We all win.

Even if the environment is not a priority for you, remember that the beasts have to live here also. Global warming and other environmental concerns are killing wildlife and also harming the planet. You can help to preserve the environment and leave a healthy planet for your kids by doing some recycling.

Consider how long it takes one item to decay. You may remember that a plastic bag does not decay until almost 1000 years after. Items like disposable diapers and milk bottles can take several hundred years to completely break down while glass and styrofoam may never entirely disintegrate. Because all of these items can be recycled, why should we discard them?

Of course, right now we don’t have the technology to recycle some items but this could change soon. In the meanwhile, there is no excuse for not recycling materials including plastics, metals and glass. Recycling these items is fairly convenient in many communities and is not costly, so it’s a superb idea to help our planet. If we all helped, a world of good would be done.
,

Our environment, the planet Earth, is constantly under attack; not from meteors, other planets or alien life-forms, but from ourselves. Although we read about it in different forms everyday, the effects of global warming, deforestation, and pollution is something we all know about, but fail to properly consider. There are, however, some areas in which we can at least try to help, and one of those is in the workplace.

With this situation, we need to take the initiative and look for ways to help reduce our carbon footprint in all areas of our lives. With regards to the workplace in particular, reducing carbon emissions can result in decreased fixed costs every month, so it does pay to be pro-active. Some great ways your business can reduce its impact on the environment are listed below.

Even though car manufacturers are being forced to reduce the emissions generated by their vehicles, this reduction is being offset by the continuous increase in the number of cars on the road. Many workers prefer to drive to work as it is convenient and can save them time and effort compared to public transport. Employers need to look for ways to try to tempt their employees away from their cars. One great way to do this is by erecting a cycle shelter and possibly charging a car parking fee.

Even though we all know the benefits of using recycled materials, many of us fail to utilize what is on offer, either because of cost or availability. In the same light, recycling our own used materials to some seems like too much effort with too little payback. Taking the initiative may not be the easiest thing, but installing recycle bins for certain materials, switching from plastic to paper cups and using recycled paper is by no means difficult.

A large proportion of the pollution that we all cause comes from energy generation such as coal and gas power plants. While we can not directly change this, what we can do is take certain measures to try to use less energy. One of the biggest causes of energy wastage is down to excessive heating and lighting. In most countries, governments impose a minimum temperature level for offices (for example, in the UK it is 16 degrees Celsius), exceeding that temperature will mean that you are spending more that you need to on energy to warm the office.

One of the best ways in which your business can reduce its reliance on the national grid is by utilizing a renewable energy source to power its computers, heating systems and everything else. Installing solar panels or wind turbines will mean a large proportion of the energy your business needs could be generated by environmentally friendly means, plus you will be saving money. Due to improvements in renewable energy technology, solar panel and wind turbine installation costs have reduced, while efficiency has increased, meaning that investing in this kind of energy generation method has become a more viable option.

As more people become aware of the increasing need to adapt to a smaller carbon footprint in the wake of global warming, perhaps you’ve asked yourself, “What can I do to help?” Let’s find out.

More and more people are coming online and using social services like Facebook and Twitter or starting their own websites and blogs. Having your own web hosting with a personalized domain is probably one of the most effective ways of communicating with the world. But, before you jump on board and buy your first or next web hosting account, here is something to consider.

The data centers that are needed to run a web hosting company consume enormous amounts of electricity. In October 2009, US Infrastructure magazine did a study on data centers and compiled some interesting facts.

? Between 2000 and 2005, the energy consumed by large data centers doubled worldwide.

? In 2006, online data centers in the US accounted for 1.5 percent of the entire country’s electricity use.

25% of the power needed to operate a data center goes towards air conditioning to keep the servers from over-heating.

The good news is, more data centers are turning to green energy, mainly wind and solar, to power their operations. iPage web hosting is one of them.

A few years ago when eco-friendly web hosting was becoming popular, the pricing structure was at a premium, often more than double that of non-green hosting and with significant limitations on disk space and bandwidth.

In recent months, prices have been drastically reduced and web hosting companies like iPage can now offer green hosting accounts with unlimited disk space and bandwidth for only $3.50/month, under pricing even the most aggressive competition. That low price also includes a free domain name for life and a free Carbonite account for online PC backups.

For webmasters not needing full hosting, iPage also offers blogging only accounts with a choice of blogging platforms, free domain name for life, 10 email accounts, online photo gallery software, enhanced security, and search engine submission so people can find your blog online.

If you are considering purchasing web hosting, take a look at carbon neutral web hosting from iPage. Advertise your website with free classified ads.
